Blastin' and Castin' in the Texas Outdoors

We havea lot of good times, the road was a drug when we started way back, our wheels rolled on steady, now its forgetting the race to find an open space and leaving that city far behind We’ll be up in the morning before the sun, since anything beats working on the job and everyone knows the early worm gets the fish. The world is your oyster, let the high times carry the low, walk where the sun is shining, lay your burdens down and think to yourself that it sure feels good feeling good again.

Public Lands Hunting Permit

This year the Public Land hunting permit is $48 This would allow dove hunting at two places near Mumford, lots of dovehunting in Milam county north of Cameron
Also this would include bow-only season for deer in Somerville and duck/goose hunting at somerville and a number of places near the coast

I am considering getting this permit. Does this seem like a good deal to anyone?

I bought the permit several years ago when it was $40. There is no doubt that there is a lot of land to hunt but I don't know about the quality. I made one trip to milam and several trips to the dove spots that are on the way to Gausse and didn't see a dove.

Are you interested in trying it again. If I do buy the pass I intend to get my money's worth and would need some help.

I would consider taking a road trip and camping to do some deer hunting at big bend or somewhere similar.

I am also interested in the hunts that you need to draw for

$3 to $10/person application fee then you select which Wildlife Management area or state Park you want to apply for. Lots of categories, exotics only, Gun Private property Management deer, Gun-Deer, Gun-Deer(antlerless), Gun-Pronghorn, etc. There is a 96 page book full of the opportunities.

We can apply as a group so that there is no chance of one getting a hunt and the other not.

If you get drawn for the hunt there is a $75 to $125 fee to actually go on the hunt. You can look up last years stats.

There is Guadalupe State Park that last year had 214 applicants for 42 permits The bag limit there is 4 deer and unlimited hogs.

Somerville SRA last year 49 applicants for 42 permits

Brazos Bend state park is relatively close to Houston Brian, there are 120 permits available there

Matagorda Island is a possibility too
