Blastin' and Castin' in the Texas Outdoors

We havea lot of good times, the road was a drug when we started way back, our wheels rolled on steady, now its forgetting the race to find an open space and leaving that city far behind We’ll be up in the morning before the sun, since anything beats working on the job and everyone knows the early worm gets the fish. The world is your oyster, let the high times carry the low, walk where the sun is shining, lay your burdens down and think to yourself that it sure feels good feeling good again.

I'm not sure that is a fair comparison.

I would say that the curado is a better reel. It will outcast any ambassadeur reel but it is also a lot more expensive.

I don't know how durable curados are but I have used the same ambassadeur 6500C3 reel since about 1996. I am tired of replacing parts on it so I will probably retire it this year. Even though I think the curado is a better reel I will probably buy another 6500C3.

either way, I believe that you have got to try the "left-handed" model. It just makes so much more sense to me when I am pitching baits to not have to constantly switch back and forth.

hmmm. You might be on to something steve.

Is it hard to switch back and forth between left & right handed reels. How long does it take to get the hang of it.

For throwing topwaters, seems like it would really throw your timing off but I guess you would probably get it back within a day or so.

I'll consider it before I buy anything.

I can barely use my left hand to work the rod (ha ha ha)

I get much better action on topwaters and a better feel for light bites by holding the rod in my right hand and reeling with the left.

I have borrowed a curado in the past and I must admit that the incidence of backlashing is much lower with the smooth reel. However, when a birdnest does occur it was much more difficult to rectify the situation. The open frame of the Abu Garcia made it easier to work with .

The Curado does fit more nicely in the hand. It is more comfortable to hold the line as it feeds into the reel. I like to feel the bites through the line not the rod.

I have never taken a curado apart but I now the ambassadeurs can be taken apart, cleaned and put back together in a working manner relatively easily.

If I could find a used left handed Abu at a nice price I would snap it up. Tommy's outdoor world in bryan will take any abu completely apart and replace/repair anything that needs fixing for $15 plus the cost of parts. Plus, you don't need to pay shipping on the parts as you do when you order the parts yourself.

One thing for sure it seems like nearly anything is better than a PENN
