All Keyed up
So me and preg-zilla decided we needed to step out and get away from the rat race before this baby comes out and makes grownups out of us. So we got tickets and jumped a flight to the Keys to catch up on some fishin’, him & her style.
We rented a little place on Marathon Key on a canal. We fished our little canal every day and caught quite a few species of grunts, snappers, and pin fish up to 15” and about 1.5lbs, prolly the biggest the world has ever known. Scooter also commented that her choice in ‘knocked-up swimming outfits’ made her look almost exactly like an unripe coconut. But she looks good with a full stringer.
In the evenings we had a 5 ft nurse shark that would cruise by and pick up the scraps from our cleaning table. One night I put the hook to her but she broke the line after about a 5 minute tussle.
We got a charter to take the two of us out after a variety of fish in the most beautiful water you ever saw. We fished cuts and flats, huge bowls over 20ft deep, and channels that ran like rivers. We soaked pinfish for tarpon but got none. We saw them roll and saw someone on another boat jump a nice 5 or 6 footer but none for us. We caught a bunch of cero mackerel, tallow tail & mangrove snapper, specs, and jacks. It wasn’t fish on every cast, but when we drifted over the grassy holes it was.
Preggo flats-jacked this nice little jack and also caught a good spec and snapper dinner for us.
There was also another trip out that involved a bargain basement charter, a leaky work boat, a captain with a pretty substantial case of Tourette’s syndrome, some serious foot stomping and yelling of the phrase ‘BONK’, pregnant woman getting violently seasick, several 10-11 inch yellow tail snapper, and two other old Dicks. Sorry no pictures of the wife throwing up on the chum bag. But that is a story better told than typed. Brian, come to TX and I’ll tell you all about it.
As a bonus picture, I submit this:

Z congrats on the baby! Boy or Girl? Morales
It looks like Mr. and Mrs. Z and z had a good time. Congratulations again to both of you on adding new life to the world.
I don't get the bonus pic. maybe it's cause I don't understand sports cars.
Trailer hitch on a Corvette is one of the most rednecked things known to man. I saw the vehicle the sat before and almost wrecked trying to get to the camera. Dude runs a lawn mowing service. I saw him, in a Corvette, pulling a trailer full of mowers and weed eaters…amazing
Does that Corvette with the trailer hitch have Michigan plates? Glad to see them representing my home state properly
Chris, didn't know you were expecting. Congratulations!
Really cool trip. Way to live off the land. I'm assuming you had the means to cook your fish. I've always wanted to find a tropical destination where I could shore fish and cook my catch.
Can't wait to hear the full story on your last charter. That would be a good one to tell around a campfire on Matagorda beach one night during Aug/Sept.
I didn't see the trailer hitch at first but that is OLD redneck.
