Blastin' and Castin' in the Texas Outdoors

We havea lot of good times, the road was a drug when we started way back, our wheels rolled on steady, now its forgetting the race to find an open space and leaving that city far behind We’ll be up in the morning before the sun, since anything beats working on the job and everyone knows the early worm gets the fish. The world is your oyster, let the high times carry the low, walk where the sun is shining, lay your burdens down and think to yourself that it sure feels good feeling good again.

Normangee Update

Last time out I dropped off two traps and sprinkled some corn around, I went back to check in with them yesterday.

Sometime since the rain on Monday the pigs have gone completely berserk in the area around the trap near the creek. They rooted up inside the trap and about an acre of the forest around it. I cannot recall any time I have seen such intense pig activity.

The ranch owners trap did not have any action in it's current location.

Saw 15 doe deer, some of them were very un-concerned about my presence. The would hop off about 20 yards and stop and stare at me. It must be great to be a doe in a buck only county.

Gause update:

After shooting The pig tuesday I took a look around for footprints and such since the inch plus of rain on monday cleared up all the old sign.

Main Ranch:
Some sign of pig activity in the southern most pasture that we walk when we come in the back way. I shagged one out of the brush here but couldn't see him. Lots of deer tracks here and especially up near the old shack with the artesian well along that newly repaired fence. Probably at least three of four deer.

Some activity down below the house at the sandy creek bottom.

Lots of sign at one of the creek crossings about in the middle of the two pastures south of the house. A whole pack of pigs including young ones come across one of the crossings since monday.

North Ranch:
There were five does in the wooded pasture on the corner just north of Jeff's house. They are extremely naive about humans since I had to chase two of them away as I drug one to the truck.

Pigs are rooting up the far southern end of the pasture directly adjacent to Jeff's house in an area where round bales had been stacked and recently moved. This was also post Monday rain
