Blastin' and Castin' in the Texas Outdoors

We havea lot of good times, the road was a drug when we started way back, our wheels rolled on steady, now its forgetting the race to find an open space and leaving that city far behind We’ll be up in the morning before the sun, since anything beats working on the job and everyone knows the early worm gets the fish. The world is your oyster, let the high times carry the low, walk where the sun is shining, lay your burdens down and think to yourself that it sure feels good feeling good again.

Spring Fishing

When is going to be the best time to hit the coast this spring?

Are we waiting for water temperature, or a front or something in particular?

I think the time for spring fishing has arrived. I have already cleaned my reels and put on fresh line. I'm just waiting for a free weekend to go. The first three weekends of april are not going to work for me but I should be clear after that.

Steve, your allowed to go fishing already?

How much line capacity do you think we will need to fully take advantage of you kayaking baits into the surf?

Where do you propose the first trip be to? Sargent and its often productive chocolately waters or someplace a bit further south where the temps will be higher and the water a more aqua shade of blue?

Sargent is nice because we are familiar with that location. I have not been to Matagorda in over a year so that would be fun too. Another possibility would be to go over to bolivar peninsula and fish High Island.

Should we try to plan a trip around the 23rd or 30th of april?

I don't think those big spinning reels of yours have the line capacity to get out very far. Your old 309 would be a good reel if it still works. My jigmaster reels hold enough line to go pretty far past the 3rd bar in most cases.

I just re-read your reply and realized you were talking about going south to Padre Island. That would be a fun trip.
