Blastin' and Castin' in the Texas Outdoors

We havea lot of good times, the road was a drug when we started way back, our wheels rolled on steady, now its forgetting the race to find an open space and leaving that city far behind We’ll be up in the morning before the sun, since anything beats working on the job and everyone knows the early worm gets the fish. The world is your oyster, let the high times carry the low, walk where the sun is shining, lay your burdens down and think to yourself that it sure feels good feeling good again.

PINS Surf

We spent saturday on the beach of Padre Island National Seashore. The wind was high, not quite as strong as our last group trip to PINS but strong. The current was also severe. But we didn't get skunked. Evan helped me land a hard head and miki caught her first ever fish without any help. She was super excited when the whiting took the dead shrimp and the 3/0 circle hook tied below a sliding weight (fish-finder rig).

Nice catch, looks like she skunked out last outting. So what became of the whitting; dinner, bait, or back to the briney deep.

Good fishin, keep it up. One of these days (in the distant future) we will have a camp full of kids to throw cast nets, yak run baits out, and get daddy a whiskey

3 hours of fishing, playing in the sand and playing in the waves yielded 1 hard head and 1 whiting.

I asked Miki what she wanted to do with her fish and she voted for : "eat it for dinner"

So along with the hot dogs we all had a bite of two of whiting cooked in an aluminum packet with salt, pepper (thanks for the packets whataburger) and a little butter on the meat side and cooked scales down on the hot coals.

Miki declared her fish to be 'Yummy'.

Daddy only cast his tall rod a couple times because the kiddos don't swim real good and they wanted to follow me out to the second sand bar where I was casting from.
