Blastin' and Castin' in the Texas Outdoors

We havea lot of good times, the road was a drug when we started way back, our wheels rolled on steady, now its forgetting the race to find an open space and leaving that city far behind We’ll be up in the morning before the sun, since anything beats working on the job and everyone knows the early worm gets the fish. The world is your oyster, let the high times carry the low, walk where the sun is shining, lay your burdens down and think to yourself that it sure feels good feeling good again.

Starting to get better at this hand checkering thing

I completely understand why it costs $200-300 for a decent set of hand checkered 1911 grips. It takes some serious patience to do this stuff. Ill post the rifle stock im working on after completion.

Nice looking grips there Wood, it will almost seem a shame to shoot that thing now. I hope you will find a way to get some life juice on them in a few months. Whats yalls hunt schedule this year? Sept 2 for deers?

no we start the same time bow season does, just able to get the rifles out too, and hunt through feb. Im thinkin this dude might have to take bow season honors this year in place of the 44 just to see the difference in carnage, wouldnt mind upstaging last years buck with the old nazi killer.

What is involved in changing the grips on a pistol. I would have guessed you just buy them and glue them on?

No... You don't glue stuff onto a gun, they are secured by a screw/bolt of some kind

the nazi killer would be refering to the officers issue 1911 colt 45 automatic (standard american issue sidearm for officers in the nazi era), and changing grips on a pistol usually involves removing a screw or two. four specifically for this pistol. these grips started as a 12" X 36" piece of walnut that i picked up a hardwoods store in Kansas a few years back. of course i didnt use but 2X4" for the grips and checkered them by hand.
