Blastin' and Castin' in the Texas Outdoors

We havea lot of good times, the road was a drug when we started way back, our wheels rolled on steady, now its forgetting the race to find an open space and leaving that city far behind We’ll be up in the morning before the sun, since anything beats working on the job and everyone knows the early worm gets the fish. The world is your oyster, let the high times carry the low, walk where the sun is shining, lay your burdens down and think to yourself that it sure feels good feeling good again.

No Excuses this time

July is still down the road by a ways, and the end of July is further still. This allows EVERYBODY to put in for time off, book a flight, secure a hall pass...whatever you gotta do. Full moon looks to be on 29 July thats Sunday. The current running plan is to do one up right, just the salty dogs, point the trucks south and fish PINS for a minimum of 3 days. So lets figure out amoungst ourselves if we use the paper-mâché dolls on Friday or Monday...any suggestions?

OK, thats 3 so far cause I'm in...for the same reason Mr. Woody so eloquently put it. Everyone put their feelers out for a good location, like an elephant, I'm all ears.

I'll be there. I may even take some vacation.

Steve - you had better be there. It is your turn to be the drunkest guy in camp.

I would like to go

I have been wanting to get down to PINS for a long time

One can find all sorts of reports and spot suggestions on a lot of forums. I visit extremecoast quite a bit and I think most of those guys fish down there.

I would be amped up for the trip. Just let me know when the dates are set.

I hear this trip is for serious fishermen only.

uh-oh!

You may as well start making fun of me now.

A couple years ago I got married the last weekend in July. That is going to make it pretty tough.

It's official. I will not, I repeat, NOT be able to attend this trip. Bekki and I will be moving to Oklahoma that week, and I don't have any money to spare. I hope you will still invite me on another trip some time.

Steve, at least all of their ridicule won't be directed at you.

I will be there on Thursday night; sounds like Z as well?

I scoped out some aerials and articles and now think that for proper Laguna Madre access, we will need to drive 15.5 miles on sand. However, I suspect we would have "pass rif-raff" and suggest going on several more miles for some outstanding beachfront with crazy eco-dynamics...read this excert...

"Yarborough Pass is located 15.5 miles south of the Malaquite Pavilion. Yarborough provides access to the Laguna Madre and is known for its flounder fishing along with red drum, black drum, and sea trout.

Big Shell Beach is located in an area between 18 and 28 miles south of the Malaquite Pavilion. In this area two currents meet bringing nutrients from opposite sides of the Gulf: one from the north and one from the south. A wide variety of fish accumulate off Big Shell to feed on the abundant nutrients or on other fish that feed on the nutrients. This area provides deep clear water close to shore and is a great place to fish for shark."

BTW, the record fly caught trout was almost 38 inches/15+lbs! from the Laguna.

The latest Texas Saltwater Mag has a forecast for PINS and describes late July as the calmest, clearest, time of year with sharks being prevalent at night.

I am ready. who is solidly coming thus far. later. -tpd
